Oxcart Assembly's profile

Carnegie Mellon University IRIS Lunar Rover

Carnegie Mellon University’s Iris is a 2kg rover ready to go to the Moon in 2021. The team is an internationally diverse group of students, from all different majors across the university, who have worked tirelessly over the last few years to create this miracle of microminiaturization. As the smallest and lightest rover ever to go to space, Iris will be the first American robot to go to and drive on the Moon.
With launch at the horizon, the team needed a cohesive brand and style identity that could help voice its work and passion to the world in a professional, yet creative manner. As a team composed of a diverse group of students, it's important that such a brand identity not only highlights the unprecedented efforts of those on the team, but also the team’s unique youth persona within the greater aerospace community. The brand and style identity created by Oxcart Assembly artfully weaves elements of Iris’s story with the team’s bold pursuit to the Moon. Through its reflective logo design, it also carefully considers the sacrifices made for the team by honoring member Siri Maley, who took great measures to help bring the team to where it is today.
The brand and style guidelines, as outlined by Oxcart Assembly in this Design Kit, will serve as the foundation for how the team will craft and package public facing media. These guidelines will also support how Iris will be visually represented from the mission control room to its attire. Through color, thoughtful detailing, and moments of magic, this Design Kit celebrates and supports all that the team has and will accomplish by the end of the mission.
